Emerging Faces

Nesh Is Building Atmospheric Hip-Hop That Cares More About Feeling Than Noise

A lot of producers try to make tracks louder.

Nesh seems more interested in making them linger.

Not through excess.
Not through overproduction.
Not through constant drops, switch-ups, or sonic clutter.

But through atmosphere.

Through restraint.

Through the kind of emotional space that stays in your head long after the song ends.

That approach defines almost everything about the Mumbai-based producer’s sound today. Whether he’s working around R&B textures, hip-hop drums, or commercial melodic structures, there’s a recurring feeling underneath his music: late-night introspection wrapped inside polished minimalism.

And importantly, that minimalism is intentional.

Nesh’s relationship with music started early, largely because music was already happening around him.

Growing up, he watched his older brother create tracks at home, which became his first real exposure to the mechanics of production. By the age of 14, he had already started experimenting on his own, initially gravitating toward electronic and house music before eventually evolving into more atmospheric R&B and hip-hop territory years later.

That electronic foundation still shapes his production instincts heavily today.

You can hear it in the way he treats texture.

The way he leaves room inside records.

The way ambience often becomes just as important as melody.

Even when the music moves toward commercial or trap-inspired spaces, there’s still a producer behind it thinking spatially rather than just rhythmically.

But the more defining shift in his journey wasn’t technical.

It was psychological.

Like many producers working independently for years, Nesh spent a long period questioning whether his sound was even working. A lack of visible results slowly turned into self-doubt, which began affecting both his confidence and creative identity.

The turning point came through experimentation.

Once he started exploring R&B more seriously, something aligned creatively. Instead of forcing himself into sounds that felt disconnected, he found a lane where instinct, atmosphere, and emotion could coexist naturally.

That shift didn’t just refine his production.

It rebuilt his trust in his own ear.

His influences reflect that balance between melodic accessibility and sonic depth.

Artists like Don Toliver, Drake, Kanye West, and producer Max Martin helped shape his understanding of melody and arrangement, while Indian influences like Pritam contributed to his broader melodic sensibilities.

But what’s interesting is that Nesh doesn’t imitate those references directly.

Instead, he seems to absorb structural ideas from them — emotional pacing, vocal space, atmosphere — and reinterpret them through his own sonic personality.

That personality becomes clearest in the way he talks about emotion.

Unlike artists who write around direct messaging or obvious storytelling, Nesh approaches music more through mood architecture. His songs revolve around uncertainty, relationships, emotional detachment, and quiet introspection rather than explicit narratives.

The feeling comes first.

Meaning arrives later.

And that creative philosophy explains why his production often feels cinematic without becoming dramatic.

There’s also a noticeable maturity in how he views subtlety.

He openly acknowledges that some listeners misunderstand his music as “too minimal” or simply “vibe-based,” but for him, the restraint is the point. The empty spaces, textures, and understated arrangements are not absences of ideas — they are the ideas.

That distinction matters because modern streaming culture often rewards overstimulation. Bigger hooks. Faster gratification. Constant engagement.

Nesh moves in the opposite direction.

His records are designed to settle into listeners slowly.

And despite operating largely behind the scenes as a producer, his work has already begun creating substantial momentum.

He has crossed over one million cumulative streams across tracks he’s produced and has collaborated with artists including MC Heam, M Zee Bella, OG Lucifer, and Lil Bhavi. One of his major live milestones came when he opened for 21 Savage at the Indian Sneakers Festival in 2025 alongside fellow artists.

But perhaps the most important part of his journey right now is still ahead.

He’s currently developing his debut producer-led album — a project built around underrated artists and a more fully realized version of his sonic vision. And based on the way he describes it, the goal is not simply to assemble songs.

It’s to establish identity.

That’s ultimately the challenge producers like Nesh face in today’s music ecosystem.

Artists are visible.
Producers are remembered only when they become undeniable.

Nesh understands that tension clearly. He talks openly about the difficulty of building recognition not just as someone supporting records, but as a creative identity listeners actively seek out themselves.

And honestly, that ambition fits his music.

Because his work already feels less like background production and more like emotional environment design.

The kind of sound that doesn’t demand attention aggressively — but quietly earns permanence over time.
